Help

If something is not working, start here.

Somebody asked me to record You have a link and two minutes of reading to do. I am putting a Rosary together Inviting people, arranging parts, hearing it.

Recording your part

You do not need an account, an app, or to know the words by heart.

The link will not open, or says it is incomplete

The link has to be complete to work. Text messages and emails sometimes break a long link across two lines, and only the first half gets tapped.

What to do: ask whoever invited you to send it again. If you can see the whole link, copy all of it and paste it into your browser's address bar.

It is asking for permission to use my microphone

That is your phone protecting you, and it happens with every app that records. Nothing is listening until you say yes.

What to do: tap Allow. If you tapped Don't Allow by mistake, close the page completely, open your link again, and it will ask once more.

If it stops asking, your phone has remembered the refusal. On an iPhone, go to Settings, then Safari, then Microphone, and set it to Ask. On Android, open Chrome, tap the three dots, Settings, Site settings, Microphone.

It says the microphone is working but nothing was said

The microphone heard silence. Almost always one of three things.

Your hand is over it. On most phones the microphone is a small hole on the bottom edge. It is easy to cover with a finger without noticing.

Headphones are plugged in, so it is listening through those instead. Unplug them and try again.

You spoke too quietly. Hold the phone about a hand's width from your mouth and speak as you would to somebody across a table.

How loud should I be? It says I am too quiet

Normal speaking voice, phone about a hand's width away. Not a whisper, and no need to project.

A quiet room matters more than a loud voice. Close a door, turn off a fan or a television, and sit still. A phone microphone picks up far more of the room than your ear does.

I made a mistake, or I do not like how it sounded

Record it again, as many times as you like. Nothing is final until you send it, and even then whoever asked you can ask you to redo it.

You will be offered a listen before anything is sent.

I do not know the words

They are on the screen, in large type, as you record. You read them aloud. There is nothing to memorize.

If you would like to see them beforehand, they are further down this page under The prayers, in full.

Do I need an account, or to install anything?

No. No account, no password, no app. You tap the link, you read, you are finished. That is deliberate.

Who will hear this?

The family member who invited you, and whoever they choose to share the finished Rosary with. Nobody else can reach it. It is not published, not searchable, and not shared with anyone else.

You are asked to agree before you record, and that agreement is kept.

I have changed my mind and want my recording removed

Ask the person who invited you and they can remove it. When they do, the recording is genuinely deleted rather than hidden.

If you would rather not go through them, write to hello@hearuspray.com.

It stopped halfway, or my phone rang

Your recording is kept on your own phone as you go, so an interruption loses the sending and not the recording. Open your link again and it will offer to send what it still has.

Can I do this on a computer instead?

Yes. Any recent browser will do. A phone is usually easier, because the microphone is closer to your mouth and better suited to a voice.

Putting a Rosary together

Building it and inviting people is free. You hear it before you decide anything.

How many people do I need?

One is enough. A full Rosary can be recorded entirely by one person.

Seven covers it comfortably, with each person taking a decade or two. There is no upper limit, and a large family or a parish group works well.

Who records which part?

You decide, or let it divide the Rosary evenly for you. You can move any part to anybody at any time, before or after they have recorded.

Can I have more than one set of mysteries?

Yes. Choose any of the four when you start, and you get a separate finished Rosary for each, from the same voices, for the same one off payment.

The prayers are recorded once. What differs between the four is the mystery announced before each decade, so somebody praying the whole Rosary records the shared prayers once and then one short line for each mystery of each set you have chosen.

Four sets means twenty of those lines, five per set. It is the longest part of asking for all four, and each one is a single sentence.

You can add a set later without anybody re-recording anything. The shared prayers are reused and only that set’s announcements are new.

How long does it take?

Each person needs two or three minutes. The waiting is the slow part: allow a week or two for relatives to get to it, and longer over a holiday.

If somebody is unwell and time matters, ask them first and fill in the rest around them.

How do I send the links?

Copy each person's link and send it however you normally reach them. A text message, WhatsApp, email, whatever they actually read.

Sending it yourself works better than any automatic system, because it arrives from a name they trust rather than from a company they have never heard of. You can also have an invitation emailed in your name, and replies come back to you.

How do I see what is still missing?

“Still to record” on your own page lists it by person: who owes you something, how many parts, what those parts are, and whether they have opened their link yet.

Each row has a way to chase it: send the link again, copy it, email it to them, or record their part in person while you are with them.

If any part has not been given to anybody at all, that is listed separately. Those are the ones easily missed, because an unrecorded bead looks the same whether somebody was asked for it or nobody was.

Nobody has recorded anything

Normal, and usually not refusal. People mean to and forget.

A reminder can be sent, once. Beyond that, a phone call works far better than another message. For anyone over about seventy, offering to sit with them and tap the link together removes almost every obstacle.

Somebody cannot manage it

Two options. Record their part on your own phone while they read aloud, using their link. Or move their part to somebody else and let them keep a shorter piece, even one Hail Mary.

One prayer in a voice you will not hear again is worth more than a tidy arrangement.

Can I change my mind about who is on which bead?

Freely, for anything not yet recorded. Give a bead to somebody else, share a decade between several people, or take it back and do it yourself, as often as you like. Nobody is told they have been moved unless you send them a new link.

Once a bead has a recording on it, that recording stays on that bead. You can delete it, or ask for it again from the same person or a different one, and the new recording replaces it. What you cannot do is pick up somebody’s Hail Mary and drop it on a different bead: every recording was made for the bead it sits on, and the words would not match anywhere else.

A whole decade recorded straight through is one continuous recording, so it moves and is replaced as one thing rather than ten.

How do I hear it, and share it?

You get a page with the whole Rosary on it, and a file you can download and keep. The page can be shared with a link, and you can revoke that link later if you want to.

Everyone who recorded can keep their own part once the Rosary is finished, at no cost and with no time limit.

Do I have to pay before people record?

No. Building the Rosary and inviting people is free, and you hear a preview before you decide anything.

Unlocking the finished Rosary is a one off payment. That is every voice assembled into one recording you can download and keep, with no subscription and no expiry. Everyone who recorded can keep their own part for nothing, once the Rosary is finished.

My account, my receipts, my password

“Account” at the top of your own page holds all of it: the name relatives see when you invite them, what you have bought and when, and a way to change your password without leaving the page.

Changing your name there changes it on every Rosary you are still collecting. A Rosary already finished keeps the name it was made under, because relatives were told that name.

Stripe emails a receipt at the moment of each payment, so your own inbox is the record. The list on the account page is there to check against it.

Somebody gave me a code

There is a box for it on the payment page, where the card details are entered. Type it there and the total updates before you pay.

Some codes take something off the price. Others take nothing off and exist so that whoever sent you here can be credited, which is usually a parish. Either way it is worth entering.

Does a Rosary I never finish stay there for ever?

An unfinished one closes ninety days after you start it, and the recording links stop working. Nothing is taken from you before that, and you can ask for more time by writing to hello@hearuspray.com.

Once a Rosary is paid for it never closes. The page, the file and every recording link keep working, and the people who recorded can come back to hear their own part whenever they like.

What if I delete something by mistake?

A Rosary anybody has recorded into is kept for thirty days after you delete it, and can be put back. Any link you had shared stops working immediately.

After thirty days the recordings are removed for good.

How to pray the Rosary

For anyone who has never prayed it, or has not in a long time.

What a Rosary is made of

Fifty-nine beads. A loop of five decades, and a short tail with a crucifix.

The tail, from the crucifix up: the crucifix, one large bead, three small beads, then the centerpiece medal.

The loop: five groups of ten small beads, each group separated by one larger bead. Ten small beads is a decade, and each decade has a mystery to think about while you pray it.

Altogether: 53 Hail Marys and 6 Our Fathers.

The order

  1. On the crucifix: the Sign of the Cross, then the Apostles' Creed.
  2. The large bead on the tail: the Our Father.
  3. The three small beads: a Hail Mary on each, three in all.
  4. At the centerpiece: the Glory Be.
  5. Then each decade: announce the mystery, the Our Father on the large bead, a Hail Mary on each of the ten small beads, then the Glory Be. Many families add the Fatima Prayer here.
  6. At the end: the Hail Holy Queen.

The prayers, in full

The Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen.

The Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.

The mysteries, and which day

Each decade has a mystery, announced before the Our Father. There are four sets of five.
